Summary
The French, under Oudinot, ignored the armistice which was in force at the time and sprang a surprise attack. The Bavarians fought desperately and managed to inflict significant casualties on the leading French assault. Most of the Bavarians were captured but the remaining few managed to extricate the four guns.
