Summary
The very powerful fortified city was well stocked with ammunition, rations and forage. There was no shortage of men as the garrison had been swelled by troops who had got away from the battlefields of Jena and Auerstädt. After only 21 days of siege the Commandant surrendered. The capture of this important city ensured the whole of western Prussia was securely in French hands.
