Summary
The French, having lifted the siege of Mantua concentrated against Quosdanovich's Austrians who had advanced down the eastern side of Lake Garda. Absence of communication between the two sides of the Austrian pincher movement. The battle extended over the two days and twelve miles before the Austrians withdrew, leaving a small garrison in Lonato.
Location
A small fortified town three and a half miles west of Desenzano de Garda, on the western side of Lake Garda, Italy. The action started at Gavardo some twelve miles north of Lonato.

After this action Bonaparte was free to turn his attention to Würmser whose force had relieved Mantua.
