Summary
Very much an action of two halves with honours ending up about even. Initially the French surprised the Anglo-Portugese and carried off three guns. The Allies rallied and recovered the guns in their counter attack. The results of this scouting mission in force convinced King Joseph that he should quickly vacate Madrid.He fled to Aranjuez.
