Summary
La Rochelle was being besieged by the French. An English fleet was sent to its relief. The Spaniards were allied to the French and they interposed their fleet between the English and the port. There were sixty Spanish to the forty English. After the first day the two fleets anchored for the night and the battle resumed on the 23rd. The Spanish ships each carried more knights and men-at-arms than did the English and the result of the battle was an overwhelming victory for the Spanish.
