Summary
When Oudinot pulled back from Bar-sur-Aube [27 Feb.] Macdonald was left 'hung out to dry' as the extreme right wing of Napoleon's scattered corps. Only a few of the Austrian troops came into action and Macdonald was able to extricate most of his force while giving up this river crossing point.
