Summary
Menshikov commanded a Russian army which outnumbered the Swedes, under Mardefelt, by two to one. The Swedes had often won battles against far greater odds but by this stage in the war the Russians were better disciplined, trained and armed. The battle lasted three hours and the Swedes were overwhelmed.
This was Menshikov's first significant success as an independent commander.
