Summary
The convoy [HX84] inward bound from Halifax was escorted by the armed merchant cruiser Jervis Bay. The convoy was attacked by the German pocket-battleship Admiral Scheer. The 6-inch gun armed cruiser immediately attacked the 11-inch gunned battleship. In an engagement lasting about twenty minutes the Jervis Bay became a shattered blazing hulk. The valiant action bought enough time for all but five of the convoy to escape.
