Summary
Two attempts were made to restore Stuart [and significantly Catholic] kings to the throne of United Kingdom. The 1715 rebellion was organized in Scotland and the north of England as an attempt to put James Edward, son of James II, on the throne. The second attempt was also centred in Scotland and the north but with substantial French support. This time the claimant was Charles Edward Stuart, the grandson of James II.
