Summary
Early in the Korean war the mainly American United Nations force was pushed back to a defensive 'toehold' around Pusan. Breaking out was going to be costly so an audacious amphibious flanking move was planned. U.S. marines landed at the port of Inchon and headed inland towards Seoul threatening the North Korean lines of communication and supply. The move had the desired effect causing the North Koreans to withdraw from Pusan.
