Hexham
Battle Name : Hexham
Date(s) : 15 May 1464
Part of : War of the Roses ,
Outcome : A victory for Yorkists Forces over Lancastrian Forces
Type of battle : Land
Summary
After Hedgeley Moor Lord Somerset attempted to regroup the Lancastrians but was caught by a numerically superior army in a tactically poor position. Pre-battle desertions by many Lancastrian soldiers left the Yorkist under Montagu with an 8 to 1 advantage. The field was almost surrounded. Although the battle casualties were not heavy the executions, including Somerset, Hungerford and Roos, which followed the surrender were excessive even for those extreme times.
