Summary
Württemburg with the Prussian Reserve Corps had not received any orders since 13th October and was waiting at Halle. When the news of defeat at Jena and Aüerstadt reached him he disposed his troops in defensive position either side of the river Saale. He paid the price for this fundamental error in losing most of his Advanced guard which were the wrong side of the river. His remaining force retreated some to the north some northwest.
