Summary
When Oudinot retired on Wittenberg after Gross-Beeren his northern flank division under Girard was left isolated. A Prussian corps [16,000 men] and Tschernitcheff's Cossacks [4,000 men] attacked. Less than half the division were able to fight their way back to Oudinot's main body.
