Summary
A strong Syrian thrust, 1,500 tanks, against the Israeli defence line held by 170 tanks was delayed long enough to allow Israeli reserves to be brought into battle. The Israelis then followed up with a counter attack which came close to reaching the Syrian capital Damascus. At times within the 17 days both sides fought throughout the full 24 hr day.
