Summary
Admiral Villaret with a fleet of twenty six ships of the line was attacked by a twenty five strong British fleet under Admiral Richard Howe. The British had the wind and Howe was able to choose his attack. The French were defeated although only six prizes were taken and one ship sunk. Howe was criticized for not following up such a clear cut victory.
