Summary
The fortified town was stormed by the Bavarian and Württemberg troops of Vandamme's X Corps. The defenders were mainly second rate troops stragglers, invalids, miners, and sappers boosted by 600 men of the Schützen companies and 850 cavalry. The French were successful in taking the town without paying too high a price for it. News of the armistice [ratified 23 June] had not reached these combattants.
