Summary

Wellington came very close to cutting off and destroying the French Division. In their haste to withdraw the French failed to hold the bridge over the river Bidouse and this Anglo-Portugese foothold ensured Soult could not hold this river line as he had intended.

A village in the foothills of the Pyrenees about 47 miles southeast of Bayonne just over two miles from the river Bidouse. (France)
