Summary
General Lecourbe commanding the very successful third division of the army of the Danube again trapped and defeated a numerically weaker Austrian force. In the actions from Oberwald 13th August to Amsteg the poor disposition of the Austrians had cost them over 7,500 mento the French loss of 1,500.

This action was the end of Lecourbe's Third division offensive. He had gained control of the upper reaches of the Rhine, Rhône and Ruess, of major passes in central Switzerland and of passes into Italy.
