Summary
The breakdown in the prolonged peace talks brought renewed hostilities. The Austrians manoeuvring to position themselves on the flank of the line of any French advance were in engagement with the full body of the Army of the Rhine, not all of whom took part in the action. Over 1,000 Austrians were captured.
