Summary
Three French brigades of Ney's rearguard were caught before crossing the bridge of Foz do Arouce. The British Light Division attacked the front while the Third Division swung round the French left. The retreat was a rout and many Frenchmen drowned trying to cross the river Ceira. Ney's counter attack prevented futher British action.
