The dispute between Britain and Argentina over the Falklands/Malvinas came to a head with an Argentinian invasion of the islands in 1982. A British Task force retook the islands at a distance of 8000 miles from the home islands and although modern weaponry was used by both sides, in the end the fight came down to 'boots on the ground'.
