Summary
The Jacobites, retreating from England, were met at Falkirk by a Government force under Lt. General Hawley. Approximately even numbers could have led to a close fought battle but Hawley's poor leadership and heavy rain went against the Hanoverians. The Jacobites while not gaining an overwhelming victory, more a case of rain stopped play, they were able to occupy Falkirk which was their objective.
