Summary
In the grand strategic plan Napoleon saw the invasion of Egypt as the first step on the way to British India. The destruction of the French fleet at the Battle of the Nile, and Napoleon's failure to take Acre lead to Napoleon's early departure from the theatre. In 1800. as First Consul, Napoleon settled with the Ottoman Empire at the treaty of el-Aresh and evacuated his troops from Egypt.
