Battle Name : Copenhagen [1807]
Date(s) : 02 September 1807 - 05 September 1807
Part of : The French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars ,
Outcome : A victory for British Forces over Danish Forces
Type of battle : Land, Seige
Summary
The British troops on land were supported by a strong fleet [29 line-of-battle ships] under Admiral Gambier. The whole expedition was a surprise to Europe and in its target, to prevent the Danish fleet [20 line-of-battle ships] from falling into French hands, was most successful. Diplomatically it was a disaster in that it upset most of our former coalition partners and drove Denmark firmly into the French camp.
