Summary
The Austrians under Würmser moving the relieve Mantua managed to cross the Adige river. Bonaparte attempted to move his troops rapidly to intercept the Austrians. The advanced guards of both forces met at Cerea and the determination of the smaller force of Austrians won the day, taking prisoners, guns and ammunition waggons. [Austrian losses are estimated; known to be moderate]
