Summary
Bolivar had a Venezuelan Patriot army which included Irish and British volunteers [some veterans of the Peninsular campaign] and General Páez 'llaneros', Venezuelan light cavalry. His force was numerically superior to the Spanish Royalist, under General de la Torre, who opposed him. The Spanish were simply overwhelmed and defeat became a total rout.
