Summary
The Austrian position looked very strong with a front of little more than 100 yards the Adige river on one side and a sheer rock face on the other. Bonaparte managed to get eight guns in position to enfilade the Austrian position. Also French skirmishers were able to scramble up the hillsides and to cross to the opposite bank of the Adige. Bonaparte waited for the combined effect of the Artillery and skirmishers to unsettle the Austrians before he launched a frontal attack which swept all before them. Cavalry pursued the fleeing Austrians.
