Summary
After Drumclog the government sent the Duke of Monmouth to take command. He brought a force of about 5000 against the Covenanters. The bridge was held by the Covenanters but was soon forced by the better armed and disciplined regular troops. The Covenanters were routed and suffered severe casulaties.
