Summary
The Boer settlers on the Great Trek north away from British influence crossed the Vaal river, but came into conflict with the Zulu people native to that area. After several battles and much slaughter on both sides the Zulu's were decisively defeated at Blood River, the Zulu king Dingaan was deposed by his brother uMpande who reached an agreement with the Boers.
