Summary
Dingaan and 10,000 Zulu warriors attacked Andries Pretorius with 470 Boers by a tributary of the Buffalo River. The Boers formed a laager (protected square compound) with their wagons and maintained an all round defence, taking careful aim with their modern guns. The Zulus were unable to approach the wagons, let alone over run them and fell in their hundreds. By the end of the day 3,000 lay slain for a cost of 3 wounded Boers. The Zulus withdrew.
