Summary
The British attacks continued. Xlll Corps captured Bernafay Wood, an advance of over 1000 yds. XV Corps gained Shelter Wood and Bottom Wood thereby straightening the British line i.e. removing the German salient between Fricourt and Manetz. lll Corps gained the whole of the village of La Boiselle but lost the eastern end to strong counter-attacks. 12th Division failed to reach their objective, Ovillers, and suffered heavy casualties. X Corps fared no better, entering the German front line on a number of occasions through the day only to be forced out each time.
