Summary
As preparation for the main attack 18th Division, XIII Corps, cleared Trones Wood. The 9th [Scottish] Division and 3rd Division, XIII Corps, took all of their objectives including most of Longueval and Bazentin-le-Grand as far as the edge of Delville Wood. 7th and 21st Divisions, XV Corps captured and held Bazentin-le-Petit and the wood of the same name. Other actions by Cavalry Corps [the last use of cavalry until late 1918] and elements of X Corps were not successful in holding gains they made.
