Summary
The British forces under Abercromby needed rest so a defensive line was set up along the line of the Zyper canal. This line was attacked by a numerically superior force [7,000 French 14,000 Batavians] commanded by General Brune. The attack failed but Abercromby with tired troops and lack of transport was unable to follow up his success.
