Summary
The British Army under General Cornwallis fortified itself at Yorktown. The combined French and American armies under Washington and Rochambeau surrounded and besieged Cornwallis. After all hope of assistance faded away, Cornwallis surrendered. This was the last major land battle in the American War for Independence.
