Summary
Harold drew up his Saxon army in a strong defensive position, but he had only 2000 housecarls supported by the Fyrd, local levies poorly equipped and ill-trained. William's Norman army including about 2000 mounted knights, attacked up hill. The battle raged from 0930 to early evening when Harold was killed.

The battle was fought, not at Hastings, but, at a site called Senlac Hill, some six miles away, to the North. (England)
