Almost a mirror image of the battle at Maudach with the numbers reversed. However only a portion of the Austro-Allied force were involved as the French conducted a speedy organized retreat.

The French withdrew and split their force. Jourdan pulled back westwards into his bridgehead at Neuwied on the Rhine and Kléber moved northwest to an entrenched camp at Dusseldorf also on the Rhine.
