Summary
Dispute over the legitimacy and fitness of Henry VI, head of the House of Lancaster boiled over into armed struggle as Richard, Duke of York contested the throne at St Albans. Thirty years, many famous battles and five Kings later the Battle of Bosworth saw the death of Richard III (of York), the final crowning of Henry VII and the start of the Tudor line. Fighting continued after 1485 but the result was no longer in doubt.
