Summary
This was only a partial contact between the armies only a proportion of the numbers shown were engaged. Although French losses were greater they were able to continue their orderly withdrawal towards Dusseldorf.

The French under Kléber continued their withdrawal on Dusseldorf and the entrenched camp there. Archduke Charles split his Austrians. Between the Lahn, Rhine and Sieg rivers he placed 35,000 men under Count Wartensleben. He put 30,000 to garrison the fortress of Mainz and 20,000 to join General [Feldzeugmeister] Latour's Army of the Upper Rhine.
