Summary
The French held on to the small fortress even after their defeat at Novi. Over 100 men were killed and on their surrender they were allowed to march out with honours of war. After laying down their weapons they were released and Count Suvorov returned the battalion [3rd batt. 63rd Demi-Brigade de Ligne] colour to them in mark of their valiant defence.
