Summary
The garrison held out against at least 3,500 besiegers [exact figures not known] who were reinforced by verteran troops of the old Army of the Orient. For the length of the siege Napoleon was unable to move his supply train and artillery passed this obstacle. At least 1,000 French were killed or wounded and a considerable number of powder wagons were destroyed. Only after a number of breaches were made did Captain Bernkopf capitulate. All surviving Austrians were taken to France as prisoners of war.
