Summary
A small but significant action where French troops were attempting to get through to relieve a trapped garrison. A numerically inferior force of Spanish guerrillas inflicted moderate losses while taking few themselves. The relief failed and the garrison of Tafalla surrendered on the 11th. French communications to Madrid were cut.
The wider significance was that over the whole of Spain many tens of thousands of French troops were tied down to keep open lines of communication.
