Summary
The rearguard of the Grande Armée was formed from Polish and Badener troops of Victor's IX Corps who had conducted an orderly retreat in front of Wittgenstein's Detached Corps. Their defence of the bridges was determined and many of their units were wiped out. Only 2-300 Poles survived and the Berg Brigade was reduced to one officer and 60 men.
