Summary
In 1258 the Mongols captured Baghdad and then turned their attentions on Egypt. A feigned retreat by the Egyptian van lead the Mongols in pursuit down the valley of Ayn Jalut. Here they were mercilessly attacked and a bloody battle ensued. The Egyptians ruthlessly eradicated the Mongol army whose leader was captured and beheaded.
