Summary
Murad Bey with around four to five thousand Mameluke and Beouin horsemen had been annoying Napoleon by his threat to small detachment of French troops. Desaix was detached to find Murad Bey. They met at Sediman where the French adopted the square formation so frustrating to the Egyptians who lost a significant number of men and all their guns. Davout with 1,000 cavalry was then detached to break up any remaining formations.
