Summary

After Austria's defeat and the Treaty of Pressburg 1806 they began to rebuild and reorganize their army. In 1809, with Napoleon occupied in Spain, the Austrians made their fourth attempt to defeat France since 1792. The Battle of Wagram ended the military campaign and the Treaty of Schönbrunn 14 October 1809 sealed Austria's fate to be a second rate power as long as France was strong enough to police the treaty.
