Summary
With relations already strained by the Sultan's dismissal of Russian-backed governors of Moldavia and Wallachia the French urged to Sultan to declare war on Russia. Britain sent a fleet to Constantinople but it was severely mauled. Napoleon mediated an armistice in August 1807 but hostilities did not cease until the British mediated Treaty of Bucharest in May 1812.
