Russo-Swedish War 1808
War Name : Russo-Swedish War 1808
Date(s) : 01 February 1808 - 17 September 1709
Summary
When Russia and France made peace in 1807 Sweden was left in the anti-French alliance with Britain. Czar Alexander used this as a pretext to invade Finland. Internal difficulties made Swedish military action largely ineffective. A new Swedish king, Charles XIII, made peace with the Czar and signed the Treaty of Fredrikshamm. Finland and the Aland Islands were ceded to Russia.
