Summary
Montrose in a rapidly, though expertly, prepared defensive position faced Hurry's Covenanters who outnumbered him nearly two to one. While the Royalist centre just about held on their previously concealed cavalry charged into the flank of the enemy, to be followed a little later by the reserve infantry. The Covenanters were routed and many were killed in the pursuit.
