Summary
After hearing of Vaubois defeat Bonaparte left only a small cavalry force to watch Alvitzy's withdrawal and moved Augereau's and Massena's divisions to support Vaubois. Davidovich had withdrawn from Rivoli but, hearing Alvintzy was coming to his aid he attempted to return. The Austrians met a French force over twice their numbers and under the command of Napoleon himself. Davidovich retreated rapidly northwards.
