Summary
Würmser's [Austrian] advance southwards down the eastern side of Lake Garda first pushed back Joubet's advanced brigade back onto Rivoli where Massena's division attempted to hold back the Austrian advance. After some fierce fighting the French were forced to withdraw.

A village in northwest Italy about 15 miles northwest of Verona in the valley of the river Adige.

The French had been holding the line of the river Adige but the Austrian moves down both banks of Lake Garda and the smaller push from Vicenza caused Bonaparte to withdraw and concentrate his forces. The French also had to give up the siege of Mantua
